(Cimandiri, Ciliwung) : ReCleanSea was awarded a grant by IFI (Institut Français Indonesia) with its Science & Impact program. The Non-Profit Organisation’s proposal consisted in having OceanKita in partnership with BRIN (Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional) to conduct a study on Cimandiri river (West Java), near the estuary, focused on land-based sources plastic litter in the river. Four sampling campaigns, from December 2020 until October 2021 were conducted using our 1T trawl-net. A scientific report will be published early 2022. A less ambitious sampling campaign, using this time a 2T boom was conducted in November 2021 on Ciliwung river, Depok, with the additional participation of Universitas Indonesia.

Training fishermen in Demak (Java) to operate our 2T trawl-net
(Demak) : Got-Bag is a German company making bags from ocean-bound e-PET sourced in Indonesia. Got-Bag is especially active in Demak regency where the company collaborates with fishermen communities. OceanKita was asked to train a few fishermen to use a 2T trawl-net to collect marine debris in nearby coastal waters.

“Using a 2T trawl-net in waters with a lot of garbage is really helpful. It can collect a lot in a short time. Operation is made easy and does not hinder maneuvering with one boat“
